Bondage can be liberating

Updated: Feb 21

As Human beings we are inherently trapped, it is a simple fact of life. The constraints are embedded within the very fabric of being. From the physical restriction of our clothes, our corporal possibilities to the metaphysical ones, all of which continue to constrict in various ways. The foreboding nature of our life, leaves seldom opportunity for anything remotely transcendental, liberating or life affirming. Matters of the soul and forms of spirituality require an active pursuit and engagement. If we are to feel temporarily released from metaphorical shackles, we can become empowered though the literal embodiment of real physical shackles. This would be a symbolic act, where relinquishing all control and allowing the bondage to be put onto your body and be tightly restrained, would therefore semantically become a cathartic experience.

The feeling of being trapped and powerless is something which the majority of the general populous are not unfamiliar with. To whichever extent we are restricted in some sort of way everyday. Playing with bondage and submission can not only be cathartic but also encourage the individual to be more free and autonomous within their lives. As one lets go, relinquishing their control of the constriction brought upon them whilst still holding the power to make it stop with a safe word at any point an association may rise, that being; we do not have control over everything and anything, we can only live for the moment that be, openly and fully exist within it. Bondage is not only cathartic and freeing but also a constant trust exercise which is forever fun to play with. As one may perceive themselves to be vulnerable; the dominant, rope top etc is solely focused on the wellbeing of the individual restrained, actively showing care and complete focus on the wellbeing of the bondage bottom/sub/rope bunny.

One of my favourite articles just now about the healing and cathartic properties of Bdsm, particularly bondage can be found at http://gomag.com/article/healing-through-bdsm/
